Moving house can be stressful enough for most people, and finding the right removal firm for the move is vital to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible.
However, before you start searching for your removal firm it might be helpful to get an idea of how the removal process works. You can learn more about this through some of the frequently asked questions and answers below:
When should I book the removal firm for my move?It is worth bearing in mind that any removal firm with a good reputation is likely to get booked up well in advance. It is therefore advisable to book your removal firm as early as you can – as soon as you have your removal date in fact.
If you are moving in spring or summer – which are popular times for moves – this is especially important as otherwise you could find that there are no slots available.
What will the quote from the removal firm include? The quote that you receive from a removal firm should include everything, so you should not have to pay anything extra on top if all goes as planned (unless you plan to offer a tip). The quote will be based on the information that you provide, and factors such as:
- The amount of items that need taking and the manpower required to move the items
- The distance from your existing home and your new home (in terms of petrol and time)
- Whether the removal will be done in one working day or whether the removal men have to spread it over two days (in which case they may have to stay out overnight, for which the fee would be included in your quote)
- Any extras that you have arranged with the removal firm (such as packing boxes, packing service, etc)
How long is the removal process likely to take? This will be based on a number of factors, such as the amount of furniture/belongings that you have to move, and also how far your new home is. A local removal is normally managed within a working day, as the removal firm will allocate a vehicle that is suited to the amount of items that you need to get moved.
However, if you are moving to somewhere much further afield this could be a two day affair, with the removal men having to stay out overnight to complete the move. Your removal firm will be able to give you an idea of the time it will take when you contact them/make your booking.
What if there is a gap between moving out of my old house and into my new one?In cases such as these many removal firms are able to offer storage facilities at very reasonable prices. This means that you can get the removal firm to take your belongings on the day you move out, put them into storage, and then deliver them to your new home when you are ready.
