Gloucester is the county town of Gloucestershire and lies close to the Welsh border, west of The Cotswolds. The city is home to 127,000 people.
The city dates back at least to Roman times, and walls, coins and other evidence of Roman habitation has been found in the city - you can still see Roman walls today near Boots in Eastgate Street.
In the middle ages, Gloucester was an important centre of the wool trade - with the wool coming from The Cotswolds for processing and sale.
The city’s most popular visitor attraction is Gloucester Cathedral - Harry Potter fans will want to see it because the cloisters were used as the corridors of Hogwarts in several of the Harry Potter books.
There are lots of other picturesque buildings in Gloucester including half-timbered houses from the medieval and Tudor periods.
Gloucester is home to several festivals including the Three Choirs Festival which takes place every third year, and the annual Gloucester International Rhythm and Blues Festival in July/August
