The Wheatsheaf Combe Hay

Bath, Somerset
The Wheatsheaf Combe Hay is located in the picture perfect village of Combe Hay just four miles from Bath, the location is delightful bu the really big draw is the phenomenal cooking. Food is taken very seriously, carefuly sourced using local suppliers, selected because they care about the environment, the health and welfare of animals and of course, the high quality of their produce.

This all culminates in passionately and imaginatively dishes prepared by Lee Evans and his dedicated team. Lunch or Dinner, menus reflect the very best the South West has to offer and adhere closely to the British seasons.

Fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs are harvested from the kitchen garden as well as gathering from the cornucopia of wild delights from the surrounding countryside and hedgerows, such as, watercress growing in the medieval beds fed by the natural spring which flows through the village, the famous wild Asparagus, wild Garlic, mushrooms, damsons, sloes and elderflowers.

Happy Hens provide freshly laid eggs and owner Ian Barton ensures there is a good supply of wild game in season, from Grouse in August to pigeon, partridge, pheasant and Venison.

Local Divers provide Lulworth Cove Scalloops and speared fish and more fresh fish and shellfish is delivered on the tide from Dorset, Devon and Cornwall- Friday Dinner sees the availability of our 5 course Seafood Tasting Menu. A selection of bread is baked daily on the premises and served with creamy Somerset butter and local Rapeseed Oil.

Homemade desserts, ice creams and sorbets as well as a special cheese menu, homemade chutneys and handmade petit fours to round off the perfect repast. Another definite attraction is the outstanding Wine List which is small yet perfectly formed.

Ian and James Barton have worked long and hard on your behalf, sampling wines from around Europe, sometimes late into the night! The result of their tireless efforts is an extraordinary wine list which not only represents great quality but also tremendous value for money, with more than a sprinkling of exceptional and scarce gems. The selection has been assiduously chosen, from the wines y the glass to the finest vintage, with something for the quaffer to the connoisseur. In keeping with their commitment to reasonable locality, the carbon footprint of all the wines stretches no further than eastern Europe.

The Terrace and Garden beckon in the summer and the log fire warms and welcomes in the winter.

The Wheatsheaf also has three glorious bedrooms located in a garden annexe.
