The Grey Horse
Elvington, North Yorkshire
The interior is equally charming, with a wealth of wood, subtle lighting and plenty of cosy seating enhancing the welcoming ambience. Upstairs, the Hayloft, with its warm yellow walls, watercolours and palewood furniture, provides a bright, stylish venue for functions and special occasions. The abundance of memorabilia on display throughout includes old photographs of village life.
Run by David Forster and Jason Butler, the inn, winner of a CAMRA (Yorkshire Branch) Country Pub of the Year Award and regional winner of The Pub Shine awards for drinking experience, serves up to five real ales (Theakstons, John Smith, Timothy Taylor Landlord and two guests) together with a good range of other beers and stouts, lagers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. The Grey Horse is also a great place for a meal, and the regular menu and specials board offers a wide and tempting choice.
The inn lies just six miles southeast of York on the B1228, and for visitors exploring this marvellous city the Grey Horse provides a pleasant and convenient base in two en suite bedrooms - a double and a family room - with superb comfort and full facilities. Even closer, just over a mile away, is one of the most interesting museums in the whole region - the Yorkshire Air Museum, with its unique collection of over 40 aircraft and numerous displays, located on one of the very few original wartime bomber bases open to the public. For opening times check the website which also has plenty of other useful information and images. Thursday is quiz night, and there's a music quiz every Sunday.
