About Dudley

Originally a small market town, Dudley expanded enormously during the Industrial Revolution - the surrounding area became known as the Black Country.

Dudley was a 19th century industrial powerhouse with thriving iron, steel, coal and limestone industries, and many engineering firms that started up to be close to these raw materials.

Dudley has several visitor attractions including Dudley Zoo, Dudley Castle, and the excellent Black Country Living Museum which brings the town’s industrial past vividly to life.  You can also take a boat tour with Dudley Canal Trust, or enjoy some fresh air in Baggeridge Country Park.

The main local shopping area is now the Merry Hill Shopping Centre - home to 250 shops, a cinema and food hall.
