Clacton-on-Sea is a busy seaside resort on the Essex cost.
It’s a relatively modern town, having been founded in 1871, though there’s archeological evidence of settlements in this area going back 450,000 years!
Originally, the only access to Clacton was by Steamships which docked at Clacton Pier.
Roads were built in the 1920s to give better access for the thousands of holidaymakers from London who wanted to visit the town.
Today, you can still visit the pier which is now home to amusement arcades, rides, a bowling alley, SeaQuarium and lots more family entertainment.
The beach at Clacton was always one of its main attractions, and that continues to be true today - Martello Bay is a Blue Flag beach signifying excellent water quality and environmental standards.
Visitors can also enjoy a walk around the Seafront Gardens.
The Jaywick Martello Tower is a well-known local landmark - originally built as a fort, the tower is now a local arts venue and hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year.
